ABSTRACT
One effective non-pharmacological method to treat osteoarthritis (OA) is muscle strengthening exercises. Estrogen deficiency causes pain, stiffness, and reduced joint function, which are symptoms of this degenerative joint disease commonly experienced by menopausal women. This study aims to determine how muscle strengthening exercises help menopausal women with osteoarthritis at Daycare Lansia Aisyiyah Banten reduce pain and improve their joint function. This quasi-experimental study used a pre-test and post-test design without a control group. The sample included 26 women with OA complaints. The intervention involved several weeks of exercises to improve muscle strength. The WOMAC questionnaire was used for evaluation before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant reduction in pain levels after the intervention. Before the exercises, 57% of respondents experienced moderate to severe pain. After the intervention, 84.6% of respondents reported reduced pain, and 7.6% no longer felt any pain. Muscle strengthening exercises have been proven to reduce osteoarthritis pain in menopausal women and potentially improve their quality of life in old age. This intervention is feasible to be widely implemented in elderly care service facilities.
