Abstract

Parental stress is a negative feeling in parents due to loss of control in carrying out parental responsibilities, both financially, energy and also time in the process of parenting. Parents with school-age children experience more negative emotions in the parenting process because school-age children tend to be prone to experiencing difficulties both emotionally and behaviorally. The existence of a culture created in Indonesia related to parenting shows that mothers tend to be more active and devote more time in a caring role than fathers, so that mothers are more likely to experience parental stress than fathers. If parental stress is left unchecked, it will have negative impacts, especially on children, including the emergence of violence against children, lack of acceptance of children, and lack of attention and affection for children. This study aims to see a decrease in parenting stress after parent stress management training is carried out in a group of mothers who experience parental stress. The research method in this study was a quasi-experiment with a single group pretest-posttest. Participants in this study were 6 people. The instrument in this study used a parental stress scale to measure parenting stress experienced by participants. The intervention provided in this study was in the form of parent stress management training. Statistical analysis using SPSS with the Wilcoxon signed test. The results of data analysis showed that there was a significant decrease in parental stress scores after participating in parent stress management training.Parent stress management training can be an alternative to reduce parenting stress.
