Abstract
This study examines the effectiveness of classical music as a stimulus for short-term memory in Generation Z. While classical music has long been believed to enhance concentration and memory, its relevance to Generation Z who have grown up in the digital era raises questions. This research employed an experimental approach using a posttest-only design involving 22 students from Halu Oleo University in Kendari, all categorized as Generation Z with average intelligence levels. Participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group exposed to Mozart’s classical music and a control group that received no auditory stimulus. The results indicated that although some individuals reported positive effects, the majority found that classical music tended to disrupt their concentration during short-term memory tasks. The control group showed a higher average memory score than the experimental group; however, a t-test revealed no statistically significant difference between the two. The study concludes that the effectiveness of classical music as a short-term memory stimulus for Generation Z appears to be declining, suggesting a need for new approaches that better align with the preferences of this generation.
